This morning, as I sat on my porch with my coffee in prayer, it was as if the LORD had put a layer of lace over the world. The snow from yesterday stuck upon the screen in a pattern that was beautiful. Of course, there is a scientific explanation for why the snow collected upon the screen, but then I thought some more and realized that even science has a source, and it is our LORD. The laws of nature deal with nature which flows from our creator. And the awe just deepened.

As I looked at the lacy pattern, my mind took me to humanity. We are like the snowflakes that are individual and unique. We share a common source and a common nature. What would our modern world look like if we were able to gather together in harmony side by side and ever so closely with others who were as unique as us? What if, unlike the snowflakes that lack intelligence, we were able to set aside our differences and focus on what we share: one creator, one savior, one sanctifier who desires our genuine love and our willingness to cooperate with the divine design for our salvation and life in abundance?

Within us is a need for unity, the desire of our LORD. As we approach the end of Ordinary Time and the beginning of the season of Advent, I was moved to adopt this as my prayer for myself and others for the season. My prayer will be that I will be a laborer for unity and that I will work for unity as well as pray for unity during the season leading up to our celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who came to save us all.

As we journey in faith, hope, and love, let us seek to be agents of unity. Let us look for ways to bring others together and to accompany them on the journey to the fullness of life possible only in our loving LORD. Let us be willing to celebrate diversity as God-given.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
