Source of Power (10/26/2024)

This past week, our son came for a couple days to visit with us. He brought his computer so he could work while he was here. When it came time for him to leave, he packed up his things, we said our goodbyes, and he headed home. But then we got the call. He’d realized he’d left his computer cord. Today, my husband is meeting him halfway to deliver the cord so he can recharge and take care of business.

The whole situation makes me think of us. We have this unbelievable capacity to accomplish good. We are gifted by the LORD for great things. But if we stray too far from very source of our life, we, too, will find ourselves incapable. Just as my son has realized that wherever he takes his computer, he needs to also take the cord, we must come to realize that wherever we go, if we want to be the ones we’ve been created to be with all our potential in play, we must stay connected to our LORD, our “power source.”

When we realize that, we will also realize that Sunday mornings in a pew aren’t sufficient. We will recognize that the separation of our lives from our spiritual journey is a false dichotomy. Our lives are our spiritual journeys. Physical must be linked to spiritual because the spiritual is the source of power for all else.

As we go forward, let us be alert to our real needs and to how things truly work. Let us be aware always of our need for our LORD in our moments, in our hearts and minds, in our plans, in us. Let us do all we can to not only acknowledge our need for an empowering connection with our LORD but to actually maintain it.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
