Team Work at Culver’s (06/30/2026)

Yesterday, my sister and two nieces had an out and about adventure day. We visited a few shops and a couple of local towns. When it came time for lunch, we stopped at Culver’s. And we noticed that the flavor we’d been waiting for was available there in pints in the lobby freezer. Unfortunately, the heat index at the time was 101 and we weren’t ready to go home yet. So, I asked Carlos who was taking our order if I could order those cartons in the drive through later. And that’s when everything changed.

Carlos told me that we could order the freezer pints in the drive thru, but that’s when Gladys piped in that it would be better to get them immediately while they were still available. I explained our dilemma of not going home immediately. That’s when Joseph spoke up and suggested we get them immediately and pay for them and that they’d put them in the freezer in a bag for us with our name on it. So, I grabbed the pints and took them to the counter.

Joseph asked Alexander to help us. He rang up the pints while Carlos wrote my name on the bag which he remembered because I’d just ordered from him. Joseph was training Alexander at the counter, so he walked through all the steps and double checked to make sure everything was right. Alexander gave me the receipt. Gladys walked the bag to the freezer, and we were set.

A couple hours later, we returned to Culver’s. I pulled up to the order kiosk in the drive thru and explained I’d been there earlier and already purchased pints of custard, but I was there to pick them up. “Oh, yeh, I remember” I heard on the speaker. And then I heard another voice in the background saying, “I’ll get them.” And when we drove to the window, there was our bag and Alexander. Smooth!

As I drove away envisioning enjoying my dark chocolate decadence custard at the end of this adventure in conditions only slightly cooler than a mission to the surface of the sun, ironically, what stood out for me even more than that was the teamwork I’d witnessed at Culver’s. I wish that crew could do a seminar for the world on coming together to help others. I know I’d attend.

We are called to work together in the name of our Lord and Savior for love of Him and love of those for whom He gave His life to save. We are called to bring our gifts in service to our Lord and to help one another and treat one another as we ourselves would want to be treated. We are reminded that we are the living body of Christ at work still in the world, but as with any body, we must work together if we are to be healthy and succeed.

This morning I have hope. I saw a team functioning firsthand yesterday. And once again the Lord used my day to remind me of my journey, His presence, and my purpose. And the custard was a bonus.
