There’s A Hat for Every Head (02/04/2026)

I have worn hats all my adult life. I wear them to church on Sunday. I like to wear them in the winter to keep warm. I wear them when I’m in the sun, like when I went to tennis matches to watch my granddaughter play. I’ve had others tell me, “I love hats, but I can’t wear them.” Truth alert: there’s a hat for every head. The same is true for purpose in life. There is a purpose for every life. Like hats, we need to find the one for us. Unlike hats, our purpose is necessary rather than a case of personal preference.

The purpose of life is to know and love the LORD. But that looks different for each of us. We come to know the LORD in different ways, at different times. And we learn to love the LORD and express that love differently than others, as well. Each of us is unique. Our journey is about coming to know the LORD and to love the LORD and, in the process, coming to know ourselves, love ourselves as the LORD loves us, and giving of ourselves as only we can.

Each of us has been gifted and we are called to bring those gifts into play, to use them not just for our enjoyment or livelihood but also for the good of others. Each of us is created for relationships with the LORD and others, but what we bring to the relationships is as unique as we are. Some of us bring creativity, others logic, still others insight, and others hospitality, and so the list goes. We are the great mosaic of humanity; we are made in the image and likeness of our LORD, and together we can accomplish great things in praise of our LORD.

The LORD gives us life; our gifts to the LORD are our lives given back through the use of our time, our talents, our treasures in service to others for the love of the LORD and one another, brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us take time daily to seek the LORD’s will, recognition of our gifts and the LORD’s desire for us to spend them in loving service.

We all know one size fits all doesn’t work in hats or lives. We are not all alike; let us seek to prayerfully discern our gifts so that we might use them well, use them fully, use them in their proper role so that the LORD’s will be done here as in heaven.

Until tomorrow, love well.
