Unchanging in an Unpredictable World (03/23/2026)

As I started my new week yesterday, I did what I always do, I looked back at my past week and tried to glean the lessons I’d been too rushed to reap at the time. Between the weather swings, my broken water heater, and the nasty respiratory virus I’d picked up, my week had not gone as I had predicted or hoped. It was like watching a black and white episode of “Keystone Cops.” But thankfully, I recognized in time the one immutable presence that was with me through it all…”Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
Part of the nature of our lives is the unpredictable future. But our LORD is unchanging in nature, character, and purpose. And our LORD is there yesterday and today and forever. In the swirl that was my previous week, I had savored moments, but most of the time, I was so consumed with me that I took my eyes and my heart off of Him.
Thankfully, it is a new day and a new week. Thankfully, the LORD who is dependable and trustworthy is with me still. Hopefully, I will take the lessons forward with me. He promises to remain in me on the condition that I remain in Him.
As we enter the final third of our Lenten journey, let us take the lessons we’ve learned along the way to heart. Let us remember that Lent is about us turning and changing for love of Christ who does not change – He is with us always and everywhere – He and his transformative and merciful love.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
