What Else Can Go Wrong? (01/16/2026)

Yesterday, I was struggling with my blog posting because I was struggling with life. It has been a long couple of weeks personally, immersed in the suffering of others I love very much. I was trying to write about it and struggling. I read what I’d written and hit post. And four hours later when I opened the website to check, the first paragraph had morphed from what I’d written. Somehow, words were shifted to form sentences that made no sense. I guess sometimes the motion of a mouse can do that. And I realized that my earlier question in prayer, “What else can go wrong?” was answered.

I went in and tried to reconstruct what I’d written originally before the techie gremlin did a job on it and reposted it. But it made me stop and wonder what the readers must have thought. And it made me consider anew how much I can worry about frivolous things when truly important things needs attention. And it taught me not to ask dumb questions like “What else can go wrong?”

Then I tackled the laundry that had accumulated while I was on a trip back to Iowa to visit my family there. Keeping busy helps when my mind is on matters and my heart is with people I cannot help as I wish I could. And by 3:30 the baskets were empty, the clothes were clean, hung or folded and put away. I updated my husband on what I’d done before I left to go help with a free community soup supper.

It was great to be with others, to be doing something for others alongside others. It helped me to have a task and a purpose and to in the midst of a community. At one point, as I stood idly watching the activity in other parts of the room, I remembered speaking to parents the night before about the pomegranate, the Christian symbol of Christ’s sacrifice and the potential within the numerous seeds that represent His Church. I realized I was being blessed to witness that potential in action among the women who were serving along with me.

And as I sat on my porch after 10 and watched the flakes fluttering down and wondering how much snow we’d get overnight, I also took some time to ponder the unrelated by informative moments of my day. Things will happen in my day; some I will be able to control, some I will not. Within me is great potential woven in my being by my creator. My vocation is to actualize that potential for love of Him and love of all my sisters and brothers. Some days will be more challenging than others, but every day, He is with me, and He calls me to live my love for Him and others regardless of what’s going on around me. And He reminded me that while He is with me always, so are others, members of the community, people of faith, who will accompany me if I will allow it.

What else could go wrong? I learned yesterday that wasn’t the question I should have been asking. What do You want from me today? That’s the better question.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
