When I Stop to Think (03/02/2024)

Have you ever stopped to think about something and then realize you’ve completely lost track of time as well as strayed off course? Yep, that’s what happened to me this morning between my Scripture Reflection Post and now. Sorry. I hope none of you were worrying that I had fallen off the face of the earth or been irritated because it messed up your routine. Life’s like that, don’t you know. Sometimes all your stuff is neatly contained within the “basket” of the moment, and then other times it’s messy.
This past week has just been so full. In less than a week I have entertained my entire family for whom I thank the LORD for daily but whose presence usually involves some cooking and cleaning before we can get to the wonderful togetherness. And then there was the additional gift of out of town family visitors for whom I thank the LORD for their willingness to take time and make the drive but whose presence usually means laundering bedding and some sprucing up of the quarters. And there was bible study at my home and I was in charge of the entrée this week so there was some hustling and bustling there. And the next few days were dedicated to the community soup supper at our parish for which I have thanked the LORD for the community that was built and for the generosity of so many that I was blessed to work alongside. And this morning I found myself compelled to stop to think of all that has blessed my life this past week.
So, bottom line…I am sorry for the delay in posting my blog this morning but not for stopping to think.
Truly, those “stop to think” moments are the mark of a spiritual journeyer. One simply can’t take it all in at one. Ironically, I was talking to friend and co-worker on the soup supper yesterday and mentioned that I had stepped aside just to take it all in a few times during the day of the soup supper. I find it helpful so as not to miss all the grace that can so easily be glossed over if one doesn’t really look. I did a lot of that while our family was together realizing how blessed we are to have each other and to be close enough in distance to see one another frequently.
Our journey requires us, indeed, to stop to think. I realize most people now a days are multitaskers who can think and walk at the same time. But I have found that for me, it works best if when I try to think like this, I don’t do anything else. It helps me to better seize the enormity of loving grace poured out and of the possibilities of love lived.
And so, I am sorry for the delay. But in the end, the LORD gave me the inspiration to use this very topic for the blog. Don’t you just love the way the LORD can write straight with crooked lines?
This week as we go about our journeys of faith, hope and love, accompanying others along the way, sharing that which has been given to us by our loving and generous LORD, let us make time to “stop and think” and in the process realize at an even deeper level how very blessed we are.
Until tomorrow, may we all love well.
