When Things Are Not Right (9/20/2023)

Yesterday, I posted my scripture reflection and then my daily blog. Then I did what I always do; I went to the “A Soul’s Journey” website to see how it looked and to check for errors I needed to correct. But all I got was that death spiral, you know, the blue arrow that goes round and round, that’s supposed to mean “I’m trying,” but sometimes means technological malfunction. I thought it was just my internet which can be sluggish. But other sites opened immediately, so I realized it wasn’t the internet connection. Then I got texts from two readers who shared that my blog wouldn’t open for them. As frustrated as I was with the development of the morning, I was even more grateful for those who speak up when things aren’t right.

Companions on the “Way” are there to accompany us because the journey can be long and difficult. They offer us encouragement, companionship, advice, and prayers. But sometimes, they also tell us when they see something that isn’t right. They do so with love, they do so out of genuine care and concern, they do so because they know we need to be aware. Blessed are we when this happens. And it’s not just when there is a malfunction in a website. We should be able to count on our companions to speak to us out of concern when they see other things, more personal things change in us.

My dearest friends are those who are not afraid to speak to me about me. Always, the authenticity of their loving concern shines through their words. It gives me pause to ask myself if I am such a friend and companion to others? Will I seek out companions on the journey to talk to them when I notice that something is not right?

It took a lot of effort, a lot of time on the computer and the phone, but the problem was eventually solved. Turns out it wasn’t just my website but all those on that platform. It was resolved by the afternoon. I am grateful to those who reached out to tell me something was not right.

As we continue our journeys of faith, hope, and love, let us be willing to speak up when necessary, to speak to a companion on the journey when we notice something is amiss, something is missing. Let us be willing to speak with authentic, loving concern. May we be willing to accompany the others as they try to resolve whatever is in play, whatever is challenging them.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
