Why Am I Here? (07/08/2026)

It happens occasionally. I get to a specific spot, sensing that I am on a mission because there’s real purpose in my movement, only to stop, look around and ask myself, “Now, why am I here?”. At times, when I am not focused, when I am multitasking beyond my plate’s capacity, I find this happens. Usually, if I stop, look around myself but also consider what I was doing just prior to my latest trek, I can remember my momentary mission. I believe that happens to me, also, on the deeper and more essential level, as I make my way, I can get distracted by so many things in life that I can forget my ultimate mission, my journey of faith, hope, and love in, with, and through the LORD to a more perfect life in more perfect union with the LORD.
“Why am I here?” is a question we must all ask ourselves if we are to stay on the path, if we are to follow “the way” in truth for life in abundance. It’s not a question we only answer once. It’s a question we must ask ourselves again and again as we make our treks of faith because it helps us to orientate ourselves to the Son, it helps us to open ourselves to change and to conform ourselves to Christ. It is a question I believe needs to be asked daily because it has two purposes: it directs our immediate decisions and it helps us to stay the course, to follow the way.
When we ask ourselves, “Why am I here?”, we are seeking our purpose, our mission. We all have one. We are all part of the LORD’s divine design. All of us are called “to know, to love, and to serve the LORD,” but what that looks like and where that will be played out fully is different and unique for each of us. Yet, that shared essential, “to know, to love, and to serve the LORD” is just that, it is an essential without which we cannot decipher the code, without which we cannot navigate life here on earth successfully.
Let those of us journeying in faith, hope and love commit to asking the LORD for guidance daily so that we might each more fully realize our specific purpose employing our specific and unique gifts in the LORD’s divine design for our world, for all of humanity, and for us in particular. Let us promise to open ourselves to the LORD’s loving attraction, and being drawn to the LORD, let us seek to help others along the way. Let us pledge to be people of purpose, people on mission, people who know why we are here and where we are going.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
