“All Things New” (05/18/2025)

This morning, as I sat down on my chair on the porch with my cup of coffee, I felt so old and worn out. My view of a new week, I am afraid, was blurred by the weight of the old. I started my prayer right away rather than easing into it feeling real urgency. “Good morning, LORD, please make all things new beginning with me.”

We do need to be made new again during our lives, not to erase the miles we’ve traveled nor the lessons we’ve learned, but to renew our faith, our hope, our resiliency, our desire to love and to love well. At times, we can get so caught up in struggles and stress that we turn inward, orienting ourselves not toward our spiritual journeys in, with, through and to our LORD but rather to ourselves alone. But we weren’t created to be alone.

This morning’s readings include one from the Revelation of John in which Christ proclaims “Behold, I make all things new.”  That’s the “new” I desire. That’s the “new” I pray for this day. That’s the “new” that restores my vision and my strength, that intensifies my desire for life with my LORD reached through life here lived lovingly, and that deepens my love to my core.

This morning, as I prayed, I know the LORD realized I wasn’t asking for a new and improved version of Kate – a 21-Year-old – but rather for me to be renewed, refreshed, refilled.

Life can make us and our faith, hope and love stale because we aren’t really growing it but rather just shuffling what we have around. I felt that staleness this morning. I felt that  need for “new” and I asked the LORD to help me.

As we journey, let us bear in mind our need for renewal in the LORD daily. Let us humbly bring that need but also that desire to our LORD for it is only in, with and through Him that it will truly occur. And it is only when we truly open ourselves to the LORD in admission of our needs that we can be filled, changed, and made new.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
