This week, Christ’s gifts abound! This week I celebrate Christ’s gift of freedom won for me through His loving sacrifice, His death, His resurrection. As Paul reminds us, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1). Daily, I remind myself of just how much the LORD desires that I be free.
Jesus set me free. He set you free. He gave His life for us. We can accept His gift and with our whole beings recognize that we don’t have to be trapped in the circle of temptation, sin, and separation. It took His gift of His whole self to throw open the door to a wholly new and different way of living, one chock full of purpose because I was created in love for love. He offers us a new life in Him. And He invites us: “Remain in me, as I remain in you” (John 15:4).
Let us savor Christ’s gift. Let us, especially in this Easter week, keep our minds, our hearts, our strength, our whole being, focused on Christ’s gift to us. And let us take it up. Let us embrace the freedom He won for us and vow with all our strength to choose wisely because we can…because we are free to do so.
This week, let us mark each day with loving choices, with choices that demonstrate our embrace of His gift and our commitment to follow Him, freely picking up our own crosses with joyful love.
Sounds simple. We all know it is. It isn’t easy. But it is simple because we are free to choose life, free to choose love.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
