“Come and See” (07/03/2024)

Our second grandson called us Monday to invite us to “Come and See” his newly purchased home. We accepted and headed out to his new place. When we got out of the car, he was there on the sidewalk, ready to take us in and share his new home with us. He had seen us from his front window when we drove up. We spent a few hours touring, helping with a couple things, and just enjoying his company in his new home. We were so grateful for the invitation.

As I unpacked my day with the LORD, the invitation from my grandson and our time together still filled my mind. As I sat thinking about my grandson’s desire to share his new home with us, I felt blessed for his love for us and his desire to share with us his life and his home. I gave thanks to the LORD for the invitation and the grace that accompanied us on our visit.

And as happens so often as I unpack my days, my mind drew parallels from scripture to my life’s experience. As the invitation continued to resound in my mind, “Come and See,” I found myself thinking of the “Come and see” moments in the 1st Chapter of the Gospel of John.  Jesus’ invitation was transformative for Andrew who went on to invite his brother Simon. And Phillip went out and found Nathanael and invited him to “come and see.”  As I prayerfully allowed the Spirit to lead me, I gave thanks to Christ for inviting me on this journey, to “come and see.”  I gave thanks for my relationship with Jesus Christ and my life in Him. And I realized I am called, too, to invite others to “Come and See.”

Who have I invited to “come and see”? Who have you invited to “come and see”? It is part of our discipleship. We are called to share what we have experienced like Andrew and Phillip. We can’t give another faith, only the LORD’s Spirit can do that. But we can invite others to the journey of discovery and accompany them along the way.

Let us think about Christ whom we know and how we are being called today to invite others to “Come and see.” Perhaps it will come in the form of a moment of spontaneous shared prayer. Perhaps it will come in sharing our faith out loud with another. Perhaps it will materialize in an invitation to worship with us.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
