LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: 1 Peter 1:17-21
If you call on the Father who judges impartially every person’s work, live in awesome reverence as you journey here. As you know, you were redeemed from useless behavior handed down by your ancestors not by corruptible things like silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Before the foundation of the world, He was foreordained, but He was manifest in these last days for you who by Him believe in God who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory so that your faith and hope may be in God.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT: This short text from the 1st Letter of Peter calls us to live in awesome reverence/fear of the LORD during our lives because our redemption was not bought by earthly wealth but by the blood of the Father’s only Son. We are called to see Christ as the perfect sacrifice, the sacrificial lamb, and to press upon us the need to live holy lives because of the ransom paid.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Almighty Father, for love of us and a desire for our love and lives, You sent your beloved and only begotten Son to reveal your love and your divine plan for our salvation. Our redemption was not bought with silver or gold but the blood and life of your own beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Send your Spirit to permanently and indelibly etch upon our minds and hearts this reality so we might more perfectly live the lives we are called to live aware always of the price paid for our lives. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
