Scripture Text: Romans 11:33-36
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has been his counselor? Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The second reading for today is taken from Paul’s Letter to the Romans and it reminds us of both our dependence upon the LORD and indebtedness to the LORD. Indeed, “who has given the LORD anything that he may be repaid?”
How does this pertain to us today?
This reading underscores the rightful need for humility and rightful cause for our love of the LORD. All that we are including our existence we owe to the LORD. How could that not humble us? And what do we offer in praise and thanksgiving?
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Where would I be without the LORD? Would I even be? How do I repay the LORD for the divine power and presence operative in me, in my world?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved and only-begotten Son, Most Holy Spirit, we come to you this day full of awe and wonder, aware of your role in all there is of goodness in our world. We call upon You as the source of our very being, the one who woven purpose within the fiber of our beings. We seek to live into the daughters and sons You created us to be, the disciples You call us to be, the living temples of your presence. Kindle in us the fire of your love and allow it to spark within us a light that helps others to find You and their way. Guide us on our journey through this life so that we might enjoy life in abundance with You. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
