Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 5,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 15:21-28

Then Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon where a Canaanite woman of that district approached and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But He didn’t respond to her. His disciples came and asked Him, “Send her away because she keeps calling out after us.”  He said in reply, “I was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

But the woman came and paid Him homage saying, “Lord, help me.” He responded, “It is not right to take the food for the children and throw it to the dogs.” But she said, “Please, Lord, even the dogs get to eat the scarps that fall from the table of their masters.”

Jesus responded to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let is be done for you as you ask.” And her daughter was healed at that time.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I bring the needs of others to Christ humbly yet persistently with confidence my plea is heard?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

This encounter between Jesus and the Canaanite woman is a turning point, a pivot point in the Gospel of Matthew, where Christ’s redemption is extended to all of humanity. This encounter is also a model for us of intercessory prayer showing us the need for humble persistence.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, I come before You this day with all humility, recognizing that You are the source of all life and goodness. With humility yet with trust, I bring the needs of those whom I have promised to pray to You knowing You hear my pleas. (Pray for those you have promised to pray by name). LORD, I lift up these, your children, and their needs to You. I ask for your loving mercy, grace, and providence for them in the name of Jesus Christ, your only-begotten Son, Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
