Scripture Text: Isaiah 25:6-10a
On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples A feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines. On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples, The web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.
On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!" For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The first reading for today from the prophet Isaiah speaks to us of the heavenly banquet provided by the LORD, our God, for all His people, people of every nation. The LORD is trustworthy, and the LORD will fulfill His promises and sin and death will be vanquished through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I trust in the LORD? Do I hope for the promises of the LORD?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, You are love itself. Your love prompted You to send your only-begotten Son to dwell among us, to take on our human nature in all ways but sin and to conquer sin and death through the only path possible, through love. For love of You and love of us, He offered Himself as our sacrifice to atone for our sins. Through His death and resurrection, He has vanquished sin and death. Send your Spirit during this advent season to stir within us, to increase and strengthen our hope and our resolve. Grant that we may use this Advent season to draw closer to You, to your divine desire and will for us, and to your beloved Son whose presence, love, and sacrifice forever changed the trajectory of human history. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
