Date: Friday of the 1st Week of Advent
Scripture Text: Matthew 9:27-31
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!” When he entered the house, the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they said to him. Then he touched their eyes and said, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel text for today recounts Jesus’ healing of two blind men. The men recognized Jesus’ power and authority and believed in Him. It was their faith in Him that was instrumental in their healing, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.” And they found themselves unable to keep silent about their transformation in encountering Christ.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I have the faith of these blind men? Am I resolute in my belief in the power and loving presence of Jesus Christ?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of our Almighty Father and LORD, send your Spirit to open my eyes, my mind, my heart and my soul so that I might see You more clearly, so that I might comprehend more fully who You truly are, so that I might love You more deeply, and so that I might open my soul and welcome You now, tomorrow, always. Amen.
