LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 14:7-14

(Jesus said to the disciples,) “in you have known me, you have known my Father also.  From now on, you do know Him and have seen him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it will satisfy us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long a time, and you still don’t know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of my own accord but because the Father dwells in me, He does the works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

“Truly I say to you, whoever believes me, the works that I do he shall do also, even greater works than these shall he do because I go to my Father. And whatsoever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s gospel text is so important because Jesus uses this time to reveal to His followers that He is the full and perfect revelation of the Father. He is the Word of God, the full expression of God. Knowing Jesus is knowing the Father, the One who sent Him. The Father and Son are united. Jesus goes on to assure us that we believers will do great works because of our faith and He encourages us to use His name in prayer: “whatsoever youask in my name, that I will do.”

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty Father, as we continue our journeys in faith, buoyed by hope in the promises made, and fueled by love for You, the Son, and the Spirit, we ask that the Spirit continue to open our minds and hearts to Christ so that we might better see and know and love You. Grant that we may allow His words, His teachings, and most especially His actions guide us in this journey so that we might come to You wholly and fully and live a life of abundance from You, through Christ, in the Spirit. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
