LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Acts 1:13-14
When they entered the city (Jerusalem), they went to the upper room where they were staying: Peter and John and James and Andrew, Phillip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord, to pray together with some women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with His kin.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
After the Ascension, the disciples returned to Jerusalem and stayed in an upper room, unified in their prayer for the Spirit that Jesus promised. And with them was Mary, Jesus’ mother, some other women, and relatives of Jesus.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
LORD, Almighty Father, we lift our minds and hearts to You this day in praise and thanksgiving. We thank You especially for the gift of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our brother, human in all ways except sin, and for His selfless sacrifice for our salvation. We thank You, too, for the gift of the Spirit Jesus promised, the Spirit to teach and to guide and grace us. And we thank You for the gift of the Blessed Mother, Mary, whose “Yes” in faith opened our world to Your Son and His salvific mission. Grant that we might be faithful believers who can open ourselves as fully as Mary to your divine will and who may believe in your beloved Son with all our strength. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
