LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: John 3:16-18
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent His Son into the world not to condemn the world but so that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but who ever does not believe is already condemned because he does not believe in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s gospel text is one of the most often quoted, emphasizing the Almighty Father’s desire to share His life with humanity through His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. The text speaks both of the ultimate divine gift to humanity and of humanity’s free will, to choose to believe in Christ or not. The Father Almighty initiates the salvific mission with the gift of His only begotten Son who comes to save and restore.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Almighty Father, we come to You in awe of You and your unconditional love for us and in thanksgiving for the gift of your only-begotten Son for our salvation and so that we might have life in abundance with You. Send your Spirit to illuminate our minds and open our hearts fully to the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
