Date: Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)

Scripture Text:  John 6:37-40

Jesus said to the crowds:

“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The gospel reading for today from the Gospel of John reminds us of Jesus’ promise that He will not reject anyone who come to Him and confirms the Father’s will that everyone who believe in Christ may have eternal life with Him.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Have I truly “come to” Jesus or am I still “circling”? Do I believe in Jesus Christ with all my being, no doubts?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, your beloved Son promised us that it is your will that all who believe in Him may have eternal life with You. Send your Spirit to seal within us our belief in your only-begotten Son, our brother and redeemer. Take away from us any doubt that would rob us of life from You, through Him, and in the Spirit. LORD, we do believe. Help our unbelief. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
