Scripture Text: Philippians 2:1-4
Brothers and sisters: If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also everyone for those of others.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
In the first reading for today from the Letter to the Philippians, Paul calls us to be unity in our love for the LORD and for selflessness.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How hard to I strive for unity with my sisters and brothers? Am I willing to set what I want down so that what we all need can be achieved?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, we praise You for all You are: three Persons, One God, One LORD of all, Love itself. When You created us from love, through love, and in love, love itself is woven in our being. Grant that as diverse as we are, that we may focus on You, our Creator, our Savior, our Sanctifier, and seek always the loving and unifying path in life. Help us to put down our own selfish desires for your desires for us and for our life in abundance with You. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
