Scripture Text:  Luke 11:27-28

While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The short gospel text for today taken from the Gospel of Luke remind us that it is not our human lineage which we do not choose that sets us apart but rather our moment-to-moment choices, most especially our choices concerning our relationship with LORD. In Jesus’ response, we find Mary who did hear the word of the LORD, embraced it, and lived it.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I seek the LORD and the LORD’s will for me?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, always and everywhere You and your love are. You sent your only begotten Son to dwell among us, to reveal your great love for us and your desire that we might have life and have it in abundance. In the Spirit, He revealed to us fully your plan for our salvation. Send your Spirit to open our minds and hearts to your love, to conform our wills to yours as Christ modeled for us upon the cross of Calvary. Grant that we may become the daughters and sons You created us to be, the disciples Christ calls us to be, the temples of your presence here on earth in the Spirit. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end.  Amen.
