Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: September 18,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Luke 8:1-3

Jesus went throughout every city and village, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him. And certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who ministered to him out of their resources.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Am I using my resources to provide for Christ’s ongoing mission here on earth?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s short gospel reading reminds us of Jesus’ ongoing salvific mission and the need for us to share in that mission. Unique to Luke’s Gospel is the inclusion of women who played a prominent role in Jesus’ ministry. Another factor in today’s reading is the call to those touched and transformed by Christ and His love to follow Him, to remain with Him.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, your love and grace have touched me in my brokenness and called me to follow You. Send your Spirit to give me the courage to follow in your footsteps wherever You lead me and to give of myself and my resources to serve You and others. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
