On my porch sits Freddy. He’s a frog, an adorable frog, made from unrelated rocks bonded together by my daughter. Freddy produces at least one smile from me every day. He reminds me of our common failure to see the potential in the ordinary.

I am blessed to have a daughter with “the vision.” She’s always had “the vision” – the ability to see what most others miss, potential. Others passed by and walked over the rocks that form Freddy for ages, not seeing their potential.

This morning when I looked at Freddy, it dawned on me, that our lives can be like the passed over rocks my daughter used to create Freddy. Many of us don’t see the potential of sainthood infused within our choices and moments. Within each of us is the potential of sainthood. Yes, we all are potentially “saints in the making.”

Seriously, we are called to be loving and holy as our LORD is loving and holy. The question isn’t whether we have the same potential as the saints in the stained-glass windows of cathedrals had but rather will we recognize the potential in our ordinary, day to day lives, joining one ordinary moment and choice to another, building a life of a saint.

We have the potential whether we’re a monk in a monastery or a clerk in a mall. Sainthood isn’t about geography nor is it about job titles; sainthood is about living the love of the LORD intentionally wherever we are and whatever we are doing. We have the potential for sainthood within every vocation.

Sainthood isn’t about our station in life; it’s about living fully from our God-given integrity as Children of the LORD and followers of Christ. Regardless of our addresses or our annual incomes, we are called to live as the daughters and sons the LORD created us to be. And the LORD created us with purpose and potential. Will we discover our purpose? Will we utilize our potential?

Today I pray that we all can see the potential within our lives, our moments, our choices and have “the vision” to see the potential the LORD has invested within them for our journey. Today I pray that we choose to join them together with love for our LORD and for one another.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
