Life Is Like Kwik Trip (05/16/2026)

This week I pulled into Kwik Trip. I found a spot close to the shop. As I got out of my Hyundai, I noticed a GMC beside me and then I spotted a Kia, a Toyota, a Ford pickup, a Chevy, and a Subaru. As I looked over the full parking lot, I noticed a man walking from the street to the store. We were coming from different places and in different ways, but we were all there at that moment.

Inside, I paid attention. I was there for the daily special with a cents off gas coupon, but others in line had beverages or frozen soup, the popular donut six packs or frozen ice cream. One woman had a cart full of meet. And as I waited in line, I watched several select sandwiches from the hot spot or a bowl of soup. We were not all looking for the same things, but we were all there at that moment.

The line was long, so I had time to observe. Some were definitely in a hurry and not so friendly. Some were taking their time oblivious to the line behind them. Some were polite; some were rude. One knew the clerk by name; he must have been a regular. Our behavior on the journey was not identical as if a place mandated behavior, but we were all there at that moment.

Life is like Kwik Trip. At any given moment, we find ourselves in the company of others. We are different but we share the path for a bit. We come from different places, we got to that spot by different means, we are searching for different things, we behave differently in small and large ways. I love going to the Kwik Trip because it is more representative of the LORD’s creation than other places I go. The diversity is richer and more apparent. It remind me most vividly that the LORD created us as a diverse humanity but calls us to unity with one another and with Him.

As we continue on our journeys of faith, hope and love, let us do so mindful of the diversity of those who share the journey with us. We will encounter one another along the way having arrived at those intersections through different means while searching perhaps for different things and our deportment stands a huge chance of varying, also. But perhaps at those intersections, in those encounters, we might recognize what the LORD is asking us to see; He is LORD of all, He loves all of us. And perhaps in that awareness, we might leave with more than a good deal.  See you at Kwik Trip.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
