Morning Chimes (04/28/2026)

This morning, I awoke to the sound of chimes. I knew immediately what it was. It was the wind chimes my grandson designed and built for me after my last round of cancer treatments. And the fact that they woke me meant it was windy outside. So, after I poured my cup of coffee and grabbed my journal and before I headed to the porch, I bundled up. And the first topic of the morning for the LORD today was why this year there was so much wind.

Life and weather have a way of unfolding in unplanned and sometimes undesired ways. As I sat and reflected, I realized that and also that what alerted me to the conditions of the day were the chimes my grandson made for me. My mind drifted back to the last round of cancer. I wasn’t alone. My husband was with me at every treatment and throughout each day. My family came to visit often to check on me. My daughters helped me shave my hair when the hair follicles literally hurt. And of course, the LORD was with me moment to moment. Today’s chimes reminded me, I do not go alone. So, I spent extra time this morning, listening to the chimes and remembering.

Perfection is hard to find this side of the sod, that’s for sure. But there is so much to recognize and savor even in the less than perfect moments. Today the LORD reminded me with a strong wind and the beautiful music emitting from special, hand crafted chimes.

As I prepared to come in and write my blog for this morning, I promised to take with me the sense of wonder the LORD wishes me to have – “awe of the LORD” – and awe for the way the LORD brings others into our journey.

As we continue our journeys of faith, let us be buoyed by the promise, “I am with you always” knowing the one promising is trustworthy. And let us lovingly search our moments and hours, our homes and areas for the signs with awe and thanksgiving.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
