My Own Mr. Clean (10/07/2025)

I arrived home from my trip to Sioux City to visit my mother and other relatives. I was safe and sound, but my car looked like it had run the gauntlet at Insect World. My front grill, windshield, and side mirrors were caked with a myriad of insect parts and fluids. It was horrible. But then my own Mr. Clean showed up.

Sunday afternoon, I was perfecting lazing. One had to set up stakes to see if I was actually moving. Suddenly, I realized that my husband was nowhere to be seen; in fact, he’d been missing for some time. Then, just about the time I realized that, he came in the back door on a mission, carrying a plastic bottle. He went to the sink and started to fill it. I asked what he was up to, and he explained that he was cleaning my car.  He got his cleaning agent restocked and headed out. Later, he came in to tell me he was taking Sadie to the carwash.

Monday morning, I went out to see Sadie. She is as pristine as the day I got her from the car dealership. She appeared to be smiling proudly. Yep, my own Mr. Clean had come through again. And I never asked him. I may have mentioned how badly Sadie had fared on the trip. And he took it from there. Don’t you just love a guy who sees a need and steps in without being asked? I do. I do every time he does something like that.

Made me think of myself and how aware I am of others, their situations, their needs, and ways that I could brighten their day with just a little effort. I have to tell you, my own Mr. Clean frequently makes me want to be a better person. He’s like that. I’m blessed.

Our journeys bring us together with others. Our care for them should tenderize us enough to detect their needs in the moments and ways that we could assist. I think it begins with our LORD’s command if we are to follow Him. He tells us first, “deny self.” It is amazing what possibilities arise when we aren’t first on our list but look to the needs of others in the moment.

Today, as we continue our journeys of faith, buoyed by the hope of Christ, and fueled by love, let us look for ways to ease the burdens of others, to make the cares of others less, to share the loads and the journey with others lovingly and selflessly.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
