One of Those Days (01/17/2026)

Have you ever had a streak of really hectic and stressful days and when a day finally comes along with nothing on the calendar you sort of crash? Yesterday was one of those days for me. I was so sedentary that I made a rock look busy. I think my day’s largest exertion was lifting my big buddy drink container to take a sip of tea. At first, I felt guilty, but by noon it had sunk in. Sometimes we need to just stop, rest, and lean on the LORD.
As I sat, I used the psalm verse I’ve always used when I need to regain my sense of being in the LORD rather than being a “doer” – “Be still and know that I am LORD” (Psalm 46). I lingered in the “being” stage for quite some time, not doing, just being, existing in the LORD, recognizing the LORD’s presence with me and all around me, acknowledging that it is in Him that I live and move and have my being as Paul told the Athenians (Acts 17:28).
Our loving Savior understood well the burdens we humans carry and our tendencies to think we can carry the weight of the world like Atlas. He told us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy and my burden light” (Matthew 11:28-30). He offers us rest if we will allow Him to be our yoke mate, to bear the brunt of the burden, to guide us. It requires surrendering.
As I sat and reflected and pondered throughout the day, I realized time and time again that the LORD was truly with me. It wasn’t that He wasn’t there; it was me who kept insisting, “I got this.” I acknowledged to my LORD, finally, that my insistence upon independence was foolish and arrogant. “I ain’t got this, LORD,” I finally admitted. “Be with me, LORD.”
As a child in school, I learned the adage, “into every life some rain must fall.” It was the world’s way of warning me that life has challenges and dreary stretches. Over the years, I’ve walked through some pretty horrendous downpours as I believe most of us have. And to get to the other side, I learned to lean into others for support and encouragement and loving compassion. But to truly make my way along the Way, I also had to learn to lean into Christ who alone can help me find my way because He is the Way.
I needed a day of rest. I took a day of rest. I went where I needed to go to be restored, to the LORD who is not only the source of all being but who is also love itself. Realizing the role love plays in our creation, our lives, our very being, we must recognize that without it, our journeys will not take us to the destination we desire – Love itself – life in, with and through our LORD.
I share this today because I learned a lot these past few weeks and days and I promised when I started this blog four years ago that I would share the journey, my journey, with you in hopes of helping you in yours. My take away that I hope you see and seize is Christ’s loving wisdom given to His disciples the night before He died on the cross for us: “Without me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Let us take time daily to bring ourselves along with all our needs to the LORD. Let us rely upon the LORD and allow the LORD to assist us and to guide us. Let us open ourselves to giving our burdens to the LORD and accept His rest knowing that it is possible because of His love.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.

AMEN. Thank you
