Paul’s Powerful Prayer (07/12/2026)

This morning, out of the blue, I suffered an optic migraine. And so for some time, I was unable to read or to write because my vision was blocked. I’ve suffered from these since I was 21 years old. So, I have learned to just accept it and wait. I was blessed in that it came during my usual prayer time. And so, instead of reading or journaling, which I could not do, I had an extended and prayerful conversation with the LORD. And when it came time to pray for those for whom I have promised to pray, while I could remember most of the names on my list, I couldn’t read them. And so, I relied on my memory to recite one of my favorite passages from Ephesians 3:14-21.

This has long been one of my favorite scriptural prayers because of its scope. Calling upon Father, Son, and Spirit individually yet unified, this prayer helps us to focus on possibilities of life lived in, with, and through the LORD. It also reminds us of the need to pray for one another.  This is not my usual blog submission for the day; however, as I explained, this has not been my usual morning. As prayed, I realized that the prayer speaks for itself, the prayer moves the one uttering it on its own, the prayer is inspired and inspiring.

Therefore, today what I set before those of us on the way in faith, hope, and love is to humbly pray the powerful prayer from Paul for ourselves and for our fellow sojourners confident in the power of the LORD at work in our world and in us.

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
