The LORD calls us daily, even moment to moment. Will we respond and allow the LORD to lead us?
Recently I have come to realize again that I can be resistant to the LORD’s call because it means change. I could hear it in my soul. I could feel the need for the change in the fiber of my being. But I was parked at a most comfortable spot. Really, God? “Really, Kate,” is what I heard in my heart. And so, I took it out of park because I knew the LORD was calling me to go forward.
I know that I can get comfortable along the way. I tell myself that I am on a journey, but if I really take note, I notice I am setting up housekeeping at comfortable places. That isn’t what the LORD is calling me to. The LORD calls us to come forward, to draw nearer.
Today’s gospel was a spiritual thump. When Jesus spoke of putting new wine in old wineskins. The Spirit is leading us into new territory. We must be willing to put down the comforts of today for the discomforts of the journey, the inconveniences, even the trials. Most of all, the LORD calls us to openness. The LORD won’t fill an already full vessel. Only we can empty ourselves of the unnecessary to make room for the essential.
And so, today, I am opening myself anew to the Spirit’s lead. I know the Spirit is there for me. Jesus promised me. And Jesus is trustworthy. I know that I must be attentive. And most of all, I know that following the Spirit is going to involve change. I’m taking myself out of “Park.” It’s time to move forward.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
