The Mistake that Wasn’t a Mistake (09/06/2026)

This week was a little hectic, and in the middle of a task, I realized I had forgotten another task. So, I dropped what I was doing for a few minutes and dashed to my computer to send off an email. Then I went back to my original task. Then I got an email from a dear friend who said she was confused by my message, but she was willing to help if she could. It was then that I realized I’d sent my message to the wrong person.

I sent off an immediate apology for sending the initial message, explaining that I’d meant to send it to someone else. Then I thought twice about it and decided that I needed to call and explain. So, I did. And my short explanation turned into a long discussion about the things going on in our worlds. She shared. I promised prayers. We commiserated with one another, consoled one another, and laughed a bit. Then she told me she’d given away her pocket cross to someone who really needed it. And then she’d felt its absence all day.

I promised her I would bring her another. And when we hung up, I fetched five pocket crosses from my stash (I tend to have several because I, too, tend to share them with others who need to know they are not alone), and headed to her house to give them to her. We laughed, we hugged, we shared our journeys for a bit longer before saying “goodbye” for now.

And as I pondered my day, I realized that what I called a “mistake” at first was not a mistake but providence. God continues to write straight with crooked lines. I thanked Him for my multi-tasking glitch that ended up bringing two dear friends together to serve others. None of that would have happened probably if I hadn’t sent her that initial email.

He who is love and who wove love within the fiber of our beings as we are made in His image and likeness works with us, through us, and in us for love. And when we have an ah-ha moment and realize how blessed we’ve been but also how we’re being asked to be part of a blessing beyond ourselves, we need to acknowledge it and ask for the grace to cooperate always and everywhere with His love.
