The Scam Call (05/23/2026)

Yesterday, I got a scam call. I picked up because I thought it might be someone else calling about a dispute I am involved with over the land next to our home. I questioned why it would be a video call, but I picked up. After a few minutes on the phone, I realized it was a scam. It had nothing to do with the concern about the land next door. Then later, I realized with AI, a tape of me saying things I didn’t say could be made. And that really upset me.
Â
This morning, it is still bothering me. I must admit that I don’t understand evil. I know it exists. I have encountered it before in my life. I didn’t understand it then any more than I do now. I recognize that people do things to get what they want, but why does anyone want to hurt another they don’t even know? That’s the part I don’t understand.
Â
I tell myself I shouldn’t have picked up. I tell myself I should have caught on earlier. Both are probably true in this age. I will remember that next time. And that the other sad part; there’s a huge chance there will be a next time.
Â
The LORD gave us His creation and called us to steward it, to care for the world and for one another. Christ commanded us to love the LORD and to love one another as He has loved us. The cons and scammers of this world are doing neither. We must acknowledge their existence, become aware of their tactics, and fight for the welfare of their targets. I am not sure if I was a random call or chosen because of my age and deemed vulnerable.
Â
As we continue our journeys in faith, hope and love, let us stay alert and be aware that evil does exist in our world. Let us daily ask the LORD for help in spotting it and stopping it by not cooperating with it. Let us pray to the Spirit for not only the wisdom to discern evil but the courage to fight it. Lastly, let us try even harder to bring Christ’s light of love and truth into this world because there is maliciousness afoot.
Â
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
