“This Little Light of Mine” (04/18/2026)

As a director of faith formation for over two decades, I have so many memories of teaching the children the song “This Little Light of Mine.” They took to the lyrics so easily and when we added motions, the whole room would light up. And from the children I was sent to teach, I learned that the Light that begins with that spark when we encounter and welcome Christ into our lives is meant to illuminate not just us but those around us. I learned that the spark is meant to be shared, is meant to be contagious.

One of my favorite parts of the Easter Vigil and the Easter Season is the blessing of the new light and the paschal candle that burns in the sanctuary during the Easter season and is burned at baptisms. Christ is the light that no darkness can put out, not even the darkness of a tomb. And as His followers and believers, we are called to be carriers of that light.

My life has been so blessed by the presence of “lamps” on the move. You know what I mean, people who are so full of the love of Christ that their eyes twinkle. These people who can hold the heavy sadness of others’ pain compassionately yet emanate joy. The faith, hope and love of these individuals is so real and runs so deeply within them that it is almost tangible. With these individuals in my life, I am reminded that I am to be light for others, that I am to be so transparent in my embrace of Christ that His light shines through me to light the world around me.

As we continue on our journeys of faith, hope and love, let us commit to being carriers of Christ’s light into the world. Let us seek the grace of the Spirit to allow us to live Christ wherever we go, whatever we do, with whomever we are blessed to accompany. Let us share our faith openly, not hiding it so as to get along or to fit in with others. Let us serve the LORD well by sharing the light we were given generously.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
