Turn Us, LORD (09/13/2025)

A while back, maybe a couple of weeks ago, I was scrolling through Facebook and reading the posts quickly. I came to one that was a quote posted by someone I didn’t know, but I read it. I can’t remember the exact words, but it went something like this:

If I can turn coal into diamonds,

If I can turn sand into pearls,

If I can turn caterpillars into butterflies,

Imagine what I could do if you turned to me.

God

It really struck me. I read it several times. And then I went on with life. Then this week with the events in our nation -  the news of the murder of the Ukrainian immigrant on a train in Charlotte and the assassination of Charlie Kirk in Orem, Utah – those words resurfaced in my mind. As I sat and mulled the events and who we are becoming, all I could think of was needing to turn back to the LORD. And I found myself filled with hope, imagining who we could become.

This week, as our senses have been overwhelmed with images of violence to others, to individuals who were simply living as we are living and not anticipating the arrival of evil, I believe some of us were brought to our knees. This is not who we want to be as a nation. But then I recalled that post I wasn’t looking for and I wondered.

LORD, we come to You, hurt, afraid, and confused. We know the only thing we can sure of about tomorrow is that You will be with us. We turn to You and ask You to turn us.

Please join with me and pray. Please bring our needs to the LORD.
