Turning the Page (06/01/2025)

Today I got to turn the page. May is gone. June begins. I stood at my frig, looked at the entries on the days of May, recalled the moments – good and not so good ˗ but over and gone. I turned the page to June – a new beginning. A new day, a new month – I got two for one today. And I wondered what the days ahead will bring.

Our LORD gives us “new beginnings” frequently: a new day, a new month, a new year. The LORD knows we need it. “Behold, I make all things new” Christ tells us in the final book of Scripture (Rev. 21:5). We who believe in Christ know this to be true. Through His loving sacrifice, his death upon the cross of Calvary for our sins, and his resurrection from the tomb for our life, He makes all things new if we will open ourselves to Him and to His transformative love and mercy.

As I stood at my frig, I thought of the moments recently passed in May. What memories will I take forward with me to remind me of how the LORD has been with me, guided me, guarded me, blessed me, loved me? What lessons will I take forward, lessons learned through mistakes, through observations, through difficulties, through the love of others? What changes do I need to make for this next part of my journey? What do I need to seek forgiveness for to lighten my load and free me for the journey ahead?  And I make my list.

As I stood at the fridge, I thought of the piece of advice I’d received years ago: if you want to do well with the life the LORD has given you, do two things – reflect about what has been and humbly seek guidance for handling what will be. And so today, I do both.

Time marches on. Today we turn the page. May is gone. June is here. Let us reflect upon what has been with gratitude and with an openness to learning life’s lessons through the power of the Spirit and apply them to our future. And let us step into the future the LORD has set before us, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.
