As I sat on my porch with my coffee, greeting the LORD and the day, I couldn’t help but notice the yellowish green dust that covered everything. I complimented the LORD on His pollen delivery – it was everywhere. And I realized I really needed to clean the porch. So, right after prayer time and writing my blogs, I got out my equipment and with the help of my understanding husband, I cleaned the porch. And I admitted to the LORD, life is messy.
Then I asked my husband for help grocery shopping again this week since I still can’t do the heavy lifting, pulling or pushing. He cheerfully agreed. So, we were off. It went quite smoothly until it didn’t, which was when we tried to do self-checkout. Something about our methodology set off the machine. And the nicest young man, Nathaniel was his name, came and cleared the machine and got us going again. And I admitted to the LORD, sometimes we all need a little help.
When we drove down our street, I could see our beautiful peony bush in full bloom. I told my husband I was going to cut several of the stems and vase them because they were so heavy they were sitting on the ground. I also admitted that the peony blooms don’t last that long, and I wanted to enjoy them as much as I could. He recommended I add a few of the irises that were also not going to last much longer. And so, I got my largest vase and filled it with beautiful blooms. And I admitted to the LORD that life this side of the sod is shorter than we’d like.
As we age, sometimes we can get a bit overconfident. And the LORD has to remind us that while we’re responsible for a great deal because of the gifts He has given to us to use for not only our benefit but also for His glory and the benefit of others, we are not in control. I love the way the LORD does this for me on a regular basis. And when I try to tell Him that I already knew that, He has a way of telling me that “repetition is good for retention.”
This morning as I fetched my coffee, a flavor I got on the grocery story run, I smiled and thanked the LORD for Nathaniel (literally means “gift of God”). I walked toward the porch and stopped and smelled the peonies, heavenly, for sure. And as I sat on my sparkling clean porch and greeted the LORD and the day, I thanked Him again for yesterday and admitted that I could hardly wait to see what He had in mind for me today.
Sometimes our days can be full of the mundane, but amidst those moments, the LORD is still with us and still guiding us through the power of the Spirit. May we always remain open to the LORD’s stirrings, to the LORD’s teachings, and to the LORD’s calling us lovingly to our best.
Until tomorrow, let us all love
