LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Acts 4:13-20

When they (the religious leaders of the Jewish people in Jerusalem) saw the boldness of Peter and John, they marveled at how these men whom they deemed unlearned and ignorant men, yet they recognized them as companions of Jesus. Seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, the leaders could say nothing against it.

They commanded the apostles to go outside the council while they conferred among themselves saying, “What shall we do to these men? Obviously, a notable miracle has been done by them seen to all that dwell in Jerusalem. We cannot deny it. But, to keep it from spreading further among the people, let us threaten them, forbid them to speak to anyone in this name.”

And they called them (the apostles) back and commanded them not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to the, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to heed you more than we heed God, you judge. For we cannot help but speak of the things that we have seen and heard.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

“companions of Jesus”

“Whether it is right in the sight of God to heed you more than we heed God”

“we cannot help but speak of the things we have seen and heard”

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Jesus Christ, I hear you calling to me in this reading, calling me to be your companion, your disciple, to allow You to remain in me and inviting me to remain in You. I hear your call to me to “follow me” and with all my mind and heart, I desire to be your follower. Send your Spirit to strengthen my resolve, to fortify my courage, to amplify my ability to share my faith with others who share this journey with me. Grant that I may be a witness to all I have seen and heard and come to believe. Be with me, Lord. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
