LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 3:7b-15

(Jesus said to Nicodemus) “You must be born from above. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound but cannot tell where it comes from or where it goes. So, it is for every one that is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can these things be?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you a master of Israel and yet do not know these things? Truly, I tell you, we speak what we know and testify to what we have seen, yet you do not receive our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you of heavenly things? No man has ascended up to heaven except He that came down from heaven, the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

“born of the Spirit” – through divine grace rather than human effort

“cannot tell where it comes from or where it goes” – unpredictable – relying on God

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty Father, Beloved Son and Savior, Most Holy Spirit, You are unpredictable to us because we do not think like us because our humanity colors our thinking and our human limitations prevent us from loving as deeply and perfectly as You. Stir within us, Spirit. Guide us and grace us so that we might embrace fully the wonder of the Father’s love and the Son’s sacrifice so that we might have eternal life and not perish. Carve out of our minds and hearts room for your divine dwelling so that You might more perfectly transform us into the ones You created us to be, call us to be, and grace us to be. Grant that we might recognize your power and presence within us and around us and cooperate with your grace and fully accept your will for us. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
