Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 24,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 1:45-51

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found him, the one about whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip answered him, “Come and see.”

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Phillip called you, you were under the fig tree. I saw you.” Nathanael answered and said to him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. You shall see greater things than these.” Then he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I invite others to come and see? To encounter Christ personally? Can I be skeptical in my faith journey?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Today’s gospel recounts the call of Nathanael (often identified as the Apostle Bartholomew). We note that Philip invited Nathanael, “Come and see.” That is all we can do, is invite. One must have a personal encounter with Christ to fully open them to the wonder of our Savior. And we hear Jesus telling Nathanael that he was seen even before he came to Christ.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, thank You for seeing me, for inviting me to follow You. Send your Spirit to prompt me to invite others to come to You, to encounter You. Grant that I may grow in my relationship with You day by day. Amen.
