LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 6:30-35

The people asked Jesus, “What sign can you show us so we might see and believe? What can you do? Our fathers ate manna in the desert, as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, Moses did not give that bread from heaven, but my Father gave you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives His life for the world.”

The crowd said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall never hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s reading from John’s gospel and Jesus’ “Bread of Life” sermon, Jesus reveals that He is the “Bread of Life” sent by the Father and that He alone can satisfy spiritual hunger. Unlike the manna in the time of Moses, also sent from the Father, Jesus is the source of eternal life.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, truly You are the Bread of Life for us, your sisters and brothers. Sustain us, we pray, on our journey home, especially in the challenging “deserts” of our lives. We implore You to be with us, as You promised, because without You, we know we can do nothing. Send your Spirit to strengthen our resolve to be people of faith, to hope in You and your promise, and to love as You have loved us. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
