LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 6:35-40

Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me shall never hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But, although you have seen me, you have not believed. All that the Father has given to me shall come to me, and I shall not reject anyone who comes to me because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the One who sent me. And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that I should lose nothing He has given me but should raise it up again on the last day. This is the will of Him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel reading from John that continues our reading of Jesus’ “Bread of Life” Sermon, Jesus assures us that He came so we might have life. As the “Bread of Life,” He promises that if we believe in Him and open ourselves to Him fully, we will never hunger or thirst spiritually. He promises to never reject us as long as we believe. He promises us everlasting life as the Father wills because He comes to do the will of the Father.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, I come to You, the “Bread of Life” sent from the Father. I hunger spiritually, Lord. Feed my soul. Send your Spirit to strengthen me, my faith, my hope and to make me whole so that I might be holy and loving of You and of my sisters and brothers. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
