LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: John 10:22-30
On the feast of the Dedication in Jerusalem, Jesus walked into the temple at Solomon’s portico. Many Jews gathered about Him and asked, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you did not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness to me. But you do not believe it because you are not among my sheep. As I have said to you, my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they shall never perish, nor shall anyone take them from me. My Father who gave them to me is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s reading is the third in a row from John’s gospel concerning Jesus as “the Good Shepherd.” In today’s reading, Jesus is confronted by the doubters in the Jewish community. But Jesus maintains His identity as the Son of God and the Good Shepherd of the flock given Him by His Father. For those who recognize Him as the Good Shepherd, he promises the life giving and sustaining relationship, knowing His faithful flock, and protecting them.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that You are truly the Son of God, sent by the Father for my salvation. Send your Spirit to strengthen my understanding of this wondrous relationship and to amplify my ability to hear You and to respond to your voice, to your call within my life. Help me to embrace the salvation from the Father, through You, in the Spirit this day and all days. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
