Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 10, 2024

Scripture Text:  John 12:24-26

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.”

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The gospel text for today from the Gospel of John repeats Jesus’ teaching concerning His impending death and resurrection from which we gain life. But He goes on to speak to us about our own lives and the fruit they can bear if our focus is on Him and life with Him.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Is my focus on this life on earth or the promise of life in abundance with my LORD?

Praying:

LORD, I love You. I seek to love You well. Send your Spirit to strengthen my resolve to love You always and everywhere, to seek your will over mine, to give my life lovingly in service to You and others. Amen.
