Scripture Text: Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 7-8
R. (4) O God, let all the nations praise you!
May God have pity on us and bless us;
may he let his face shine upon us.
So may your way be known upon earth;
among all nations, your salvation.
R. O God, let all the nations praise you!
May the nations be glad and exult
because you rule the peoples in equity;
the nations on the earth you guide.
R. O God, let all the nations praise you!
The earth has yielded its fruits;
God, our God, has blessed us.
May God bless us,
and may all the ends of the earth fear him!
R. O God, let all the nations praise you!
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The psalm for today, Psalm 67 is a hymnic psalm, a community thanksgiving psalm. It is a fitting response to the 1st reading about the jubilee year for the Jewish people.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I daily give thanksgiving and praise to my all-loving and all-present LORD?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, we lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving, knowing of your great love for us manifested moment to moment in our world and in our lives through your power and presence. Oh, Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to You we open our minds for your teachings and our hearts to your sacrifice for us and your warning to us that without You, we can do nothing. Be with us this day and all days. Remain with us as we seek to remain with You. Most Holy Spirit, You advocate for us day and night. You guide us on our journey home. You grace us and gift us. Grant that we may always and everywhere cooperate with your loving presence. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
