Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 27,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 24:42-51

(Jesus said to his disciples,) “Be attentive because one does not know at which hour your Lord will come. But know this, if the master of the house had known at which time the thief would come, he would have been attentive and would not have suffered from his house being broken into. Therefore, you also must be ready for the Son of Man will come when you do not expect.

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant who his lord has put in charge of his household to give them food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his lord finds doing as assigned upon his return. Truly, I tell you that he shall put him in charge of all his property. But if the wicked servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delayed,’ and begins to ill-treat his fellow servants and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant’s master will come at an unexpected time and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely, assigning him to a place with the hypocrites where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Am I “staying alert”? Do I acknowledge that I do not know the LORD’s schedule for me? Besides that, am I living always in keeping with my understanding of what the LORD asks of me regardless of who is watching?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel reading, we hear Jesus’ warning to always ready for His return, remaining faithful to His call. He warns us of the danger of complacency.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, Almighty Father, send your Spirit to stir within me a perpetual vigilance so that I might more perfectly follow in the footsteps of your only-begotten and beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Grant that I may live my days as a faithful servant caring for others for love of You. Make me ready for the return of my Savior. May Christ find me on His return ready to welcome Him with joy. Amen.
