Scripture Text: ZECHARIAH 2:14-17
Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! See, I am coming to dwell among you, says the LORD.Many nations shall join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they shall be his people, and he will dwell among you, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. The LORD will possess Judah as his portion in the holy land, and he will again choose Jerusalem. Silence, all mankind, in the presence of the LORD! For he stirs forth from his holy dwelling.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The first reading for today is drawn from the prophecy of Zechariah speaking of the LORD’s coming to dwell among us, of Jesus’ birth and life as our redeemer.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I consider myself to be the LORD’s? Do I seek to join myself to the LORD through prayer and action? Do I acknowledge the presence of the LORD in my life?
Praying:
LORD, during this season when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ to Mary in Bethlehem and the gift of your divine presence among us, we offer up our praise to You for your power and presence throughout the ages, manifestations of your great love for us. We implore You to send the Spirit to stir within us anew the awe of the shepherds at the manger. Open us to your divine will for each of us and our participation in your ongoing salvific mission in the world. As You continue to dwell among us, grant us the vision to recognize You when we encounter You and the courage to follow You wherever You lead us. Amen.
