Date: Friday of the 1st Week of Advent
Scripture Text: Matthew 9:27-31
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out, "Son of David, have pity on us!" When he entered the house, the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I can do this?" "Yes, Lord," they said to him. Then he touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done for you according to your faith." And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s short gospel recounts Jesus’ healing of two blind men who cried out to Him in hope and faith. He cured them because they believed.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How deep is my faith, how solid is my hope in Christ when I pray to Him for help? Do I believe that He can do what I ask?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior and our brother, we seek to walk in your footsteps, we seek to live the life You call us to live as your disciples. As we make our Advent journey, preparing in anticipation for your coming, send your Spirit to open our hearts and minds and to strengthen our faith, our hope, and our love. Grant that this Advent journey will bring us closer to You and closer to being the ones You call us to be. May our faith in You grow daily and may our lives in You bring glory to our Heavenly Father. Amen.
