Scripture Text:   Isaiah 55:10-11

Thus says the LORD:

Just as from the heavens

the rain and snow come down

And do not return there

till they have watered the earth,

making it fertile and fruitful,

Giving seed to the one who sows

and bread to the one who eats,

So shall my word be

that goes forth from my mouth;

It shall not return to me void,

but shall do my will,

achieving the end for which I sent it.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

In today’s first reading from the Prophet Isaiah, the LORD affirms the power of His Word which brings transformation, salvation, and life.  The LORD’s Word is the very source of our human fruitfulness.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I allow the LORD’s Word to tenderize my mind, heart, and soul as rain tenderizes the soil? Do I trust in the LORD’s divine design?

Praying:

LORD,  Almighty Father, Source of all goodness, source of love itself, You gave us your only-begotten Son, Your Word made flesh through the power of the Spirit and the faith of Mary, to bring to us, to humanity true transformation, our longed for salvation, and the promise of life in abundance with You. Send your Spirit to tenderize my very being so that I might be more receptive to your Beloved Son, the Word Mad Flesh, and strive with all my being to become fully the one You created me to be, the disciple He calls me to be, and a temple of the Spirit. I ask this in the name of  your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
