Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: February 5, 2024

Date:   Monday of the 5th Week in Ordinary Time/Memorial of St. Agatha

 Scripture Text:  Mark 6:53-56

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.

The gospel for today from Mark recounts Jesus’ journey to the territory of Gennesaret and his healings of the sick. What stands out is the care for others and the role of others in bringing their loved ones to Christ.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I seek to bring others to Christ?  Do I bring the needs of others to prayer?

Praying:

LORD, Jesus Christ, as we continue on our journeys of faith as your disciples and seek to follow in your footsteps, help us to recognize those around us and to bring their needs to You. Send your Spirit to fuel within us a desire to be your servants through our service to those whom You love. Grant that we may tirelessly seek ways to bring others to You and You and your unfathomable love to others. Amen.
